“Why Evans Stayed at ATWT”

“This all happened so fast,” sighs Mary Beth Evans, who has signed a year long contract in the role of ATWT’s Sierra, which she assumed on a recurring basis in 2000. “Peyton List was moving, so I took her apartment and I’ve never even seen it. It’s all insanity. When they came up with this contract, I said to my husband, this is all incredibly great except I live in California!”

It all came on the heels of another offer from One Life to Live for a recurring role. “That was such a very innocent thing because they offered me a part and I knew that I probably wouldn’t be back on ATWT for about six months,” explains Evans. “So I called Chris Goutman and said, ‘I don’t want to jeopardize my relationship with you, but they’ve offered me this’, and he said, ‘I know you love to work and we don’t have anything right now, so go have fun’. So we told that to One Life and Frank Valentini, the nicest, grooviest guy in the world. I would have been working with Bob Woods, who I was on Days with…and we’ve always had this chemistry between us, and thought it would be fun to work together. Everything’s great and we even did this TV Guide article about it.”

That was when ATWT, having come up with a story for Sierra, offered her a contract. “And that was as simple as it was,” she says. “I felt horrible having to call One Life back. They said, ‘We understand, it’s a contract, we’re bummed, but maybe this could happen later‘. They couldn’t have been more gracious. Really everybody is just trying to do their shows.”

The One Life to Live role went to Kimberlin Brown and Sierra will be back on a permanent basis on November 15th. As for that monster commute she is facing, she says “I’m absolutely blindly going into it, thinking they’ve been so great to me to try to work with me with scheduling. So I’m going to see how it goes. I just want to work, and I think it will be nice to have a regular story instead of putting out fires. It’s a year, so who knows, years go by fast!”

Letters/Sound Off:

Sierra Missed

Congratulations to ATWT for keeping MBE in Oakdale! I am ecstatic that this talented actress decided to remain on ATWT, where she shines in all of her scenes with the other cast members. Evans won me over when she came to town to mourn her son’s death. Since then I have looked forward to her visits, hoping she would pop up more often than she does. Now that Evans is staying put, I think Sierra should move back to Oakdale, to keep an eye on Lucy…and Craig.
