“Stephen and I have chemistry even if we’re sitting around a 7-11. We’re very good friends
and we connect on a visceral level.  I truly believe that would be there no matter what we played.”

-Mary Beth Evans , Soap Opera Update Magazine

“To me, Mary Beth is like a family member. I love her that much and I would give her anything.
I see in other people, when they do compete in scenes, instead of  being partners in collaboration.”

– Stephen Nichols, TV Soap Magazine

Friends…

Mary Beth Evans and Stephen Nichols were first paired onscreen, and rose to popularity, as the beloved Steve and Kayla on Days of our Lives from 1986-1990. The daytime television audience embraced them wholeheartedly, voting them to the top of the polls and viewer awards.  As Steve and Kayla, they played it all: romance, intensely emotional drama, comedy, adventure/suspense, and even Civil War lovers Emily and Gideon.

Instead of letting the attention get to their heads, Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans just worked harder; the popularity of that couple can be directly attributed to these two actors who always remain committed to doing their best work,  spending a lot of time diligently running lines together and coming up with ways to flesh out their scenes and story.  In that time together as Steve and Kayla, a special friendship emerged  that has endured over two decades later.

Since that original run on Days, they have collaborated on several projects such as  Andrew and Melissa in Love Letters (two runs of the play), and  a scene from the Night of the Iguana together at a theatre fundraiser. They were paired up again in daytime as Stefan and Katherine on General Hospital in the late 1990’s, and returned to the roles of Steve and Kayla in 2006 (exited in 2009).

No matter what roles they undertake, these two actors are magic onscreen.
