Forever Kayla:

“I still get recognized more for DAYS than I do for GH,” Evans marvels. “That seems so weird to me because I’m the type of person who lives in the moment. So I’m like, ‘God, did I even do that show?”

“People loved Kayla because she was a strong character, yet she wasn’t a Pollyanna. Kayla had spunk, she was a good person, and saw the best in people and would fight for that and for them.”

“I missed Days and Kayla for a long time. I was there for six years, I’d had a couple of kids there, and it was very much family to me,” she confides.

“I wouldn’t mind going back to Days if I was like Alice Horton, the show’s matriarch, or something, but I really like it here at GH,” she offers.

Mary Beth on Katherine’s
LEADING MEN:

Stefan:

“Katherine met her match in Stefan. He was not necessarily a good person in that sense, but he had incredible fire, and she thought she could pull him back from all the things that pulled away from him mentally. She thought she could be enough for him and that they’d have the most incredible love affair. And they did, up to a point.”

Damian Smith:

“I think that Damian was really the most like Katherine. They were sort of two peas in a pod and partners in crime. And while they reveled in their bad boy and girl behavior, I think it bugged her that he knew her so well. But ultimately, he was the one who changed her life because he left her all of that money when he died.”

Ned Ashton:

“Katherine grew up as a cook’s daughter, so she’s always been looking for power and prestige and community acceptance, and she thought that would happen with Ned. I think she also started to develop genuine feelings for him, but then the whole Lois thing happened. Now what chance did I have with her around?”

Mac Scorpio:

“Katherine was still searching for some sort of charmed life, and Mac was such a good guy- what could she not like about him? He was so sweet! But ultimately, he was too white-bread and uncomplicated for her. She adored him, and they had a lot of fun, but he was just too nice. That’s sad, but that’s the kind of person Katherine is.”

Edward Quartermaine:

“Edward is like the father Katherine never had, but I also think she finds him charming and intoxicating. If he were a free man, she might think of having him as a boyfriend, or some sort of tryst. He’s one of the few people willing to protect her and who seems to know who she is and doesn’t care. I think she really appreciates that.”

More Highlights:

~“With her romance with Stefan destroyed by his feelings for lost love Laura, Katherine has gone into defense mode, proving that her body may have been broken, but her spirit certainly wasn’t.”

~”Katherine is in an absolute ‘for herself’ time right now- that’s the only way she knows how to survive,” Evans explains. “Now she’s gone back into her scheming and what I refer to as sassy, sashaying business. That’s where she feels more in control”…..

~”Katherine desperately wants to have a family life and a home with a picket fence, but she’s so devilish that she keeps herself from being able to grasp the one thing she really wants,” Evans suggests. “But with Stefan, a lot of that was falling by the wayside, and she saw hope that she really could have a life with a fiery man.”

~Tragically, a “happily ever after” ending was not in the stars. “The week before the Bacchanalia engagement ball was the story I always wanted Katherine to have: Things were falling into place; Katherine was so happy, they were getting married, and he loved her,” Evans sighs wistfully. “I thought it was incredibly sad that she believed and trusted him, and then he turned out not to be the person she thought he was.”

~And what of Katherine’s residual feelings for Stefan, the man she planned to spend the rest of her life with? “She’s incredibly hurt, so I think the love feelings have to be gone for a while,” Evans offers. “She’s not about to let him see her pain.”

~But that’s not to say that they couldn’t eventually find their way back to each other, especially if Luke’s return pulls Laura’s attention away from Stefan. “Katherine let her defenses down to go with her love for Stefan, and having him betray her again caused all her ‘Get Smart doors’ to shut. It’s going to take a lot for Stefan to crack them back open.”

THE SWEETEST REVENGE:

Will Katherine Take Nikolas to bed to take Stefan to task?

What’s the best way to get even with the man who betrayed your love? Hit him where it hurts! For Katherine that might just mean turning the one person Stefan cares about most- Nikolas- against him!

“I don’t think Katherine can just use Nikolas, necessarily; it would have to come out of some deep need,” her portrayer, Mary Beth Evans, offers. “I think she really does adore Nikolas and thinks of him as a friend, but she also feels somewhat motherly toward him. Anything more would make things more complicated and maybe even painful at the same time.”

Evans says that that would not be as awkward for her to play as one might think. “When I first heard it suggested, I kept thinking, ‘Geez I know what I’d feel like his mother in bed!'” she laughingly admits. “But Tyler (Christopher, who plays Nikolas) is such a down-to-earth, sweet guy. We’re good friends, and we respect each other, so it shouldn’t be uncomfortable.”
