Her Mother’s Daughter on ATWT

Soap Opera Weekly

September 11, 2001

ATWT’s Lucinda is accustomed to getting what she wants, and the thing she most recently desired was to see Craig destroyed.  But she didn’t count on Sierra coming to Craig’s defense.

As Lucinda celebrated Craig’s imminent incarceration, Sierra snatched the champagne glass from Lucinda’s hand.  The verbal exchange was like a heavyweight boxing match, the words coming fast and furious.  Watching Mary Beth Evans go toe-to-toe with Elizabeth Hubbard was simply mesmerizing.  Sierra grew stronger with each heated exchange.  Evans clearly illustrated Sierra’s desire to be recognized as an independent woman who would no longer jump at her mother’s demands.

It was stunning when Sierra pointed out that Lucinda and Craig had something in common (the horror!)–both married for money.  Evans’ cold, calculated delivery pierced Lucinda’s heart.  She issued a warning: “If you don’t take that crack back, our relationship will never be quite the same again.”  Given Evans performance, Lucinda may have lost a daughter, but Hubbard gained a worthy sparring partner.
